CEC Standard 3.1
Curricular Content Knowledge
Developing meaningful learning for my exceptional students is key. Having lessons that are derived from standardized curriculum can be challenging. As with most typically developing students, they are most engaged in learning that is interesting and that means something to them. Many of my students only find meaning in things and ideas that they are able to relate to.
“At the Rodeo” is a lesson plan created for students with moderate intellectual disabilities, the lesson revolves around goals and objectives connected to Arizona content standards. However what is unique about this lesson is its timing in connection to the world surrounding my student, the Rodeo. The engagement and participation of this lesson made it a success. This lesson was important to my students because many of them have significant language delays that adversely affect their participation in the general curriculum. By using a familiar topic, my students were able to be successful and meet the objections of the lesson.
