CEC Artifact 1.3
Learning Development and Individual Learning Differences
Teaching students with special needs requires collaboration between colleagues to identify how language, culture, family background, and other exceptionalities can affect a students learning. In this artifact you will read about Samuel, a case study student who has cerebral palsy. You will read about his background, strengths, and to what extent he is able to perform functionally and academically. The purpose of this artifact is to show how much more goes into writing statements about a student, not only do we consider to what extent a student can perform in the classroom, a truly great statement of academic and functional performance goes into detail on what factors play into a students success, or lack thereof. Going beyond what a student is able to achieve at school gives us as educators a greater sense of how to make connection between home, school, and the world around our exceptional students. It is crucial that these statements are written with consideration of the students background in order to develop strategies to help them succeed in school and transfer skills into their colleges and careers.
