CEC Standard 6.1
The Co-teaching Model:
Co- teaching can be defined as two cooperating teachers who share the responsibility of teaching content to a group of students. This model of professional practice works best when two teachers who have an open line of communication and a generally positive relationship come together to plan and teach content while also modeling effective collaboration skills to their students. Co-teachers plan lessons, develop strategies, make reports, and build a teacher-student rapport with all of their students. It can be useful to all teachers, especially those working with a large group of diverse learners. In my paper, I talk about the six different co teaching models such as one teach one observer, parallel teaching, and team teaching as well as some of their benefits.
I chose this artifact to show my understanding of how good relationships and active participation in professional learning benefit me as a teacher. I have used many of these models in my classroom, each time I practice one of these models I find more ways to direct it more effectively. The research and application of this topic have not only benefited myself as a teacher but my students and their learning. Co-teaching is not only beneficial for teachers, but for students to watch and model the collaboration they see. In a professional world, the need to collaborate is essential, modeling good strategies to students on how to work together is what separates general graduates and college/career ready graduates.
