Candy Genetics:
I have included this artifact to demonstrate my knowledge around creating a content lesson plan with exceptional learners in mind. The lesson title “Candy Genetics” is derived from the activity that we created which included our students use of colorful candies to create their own Punnet square, a diagram that is used to predict and outcome of genetic variation in humans. Our lesson plan was designed around a high school resource room that included students with mild to moderate learning disabilities. My contribution to this project was in the vocabulary section. In the vocabulary section, I designed a system where the information was converted to an infographic to accommodate students with reading and comprehension difficulties. In the vocabulary section, I modified definitions, used color coding, and incorporated vocabulary words in an actual Punnet square to demonstrate to students how the vocabulary words related to the lesson.
