Professional Learning and Ethical Practices
I find that much of the time when issues within an educational group arise it is because group members are becoming frustrated with the solutions that are being presented or the outcomes the group is receiving. As a special education teacher, most of my work is to educate others about my student’s exceptionalities and advocate for their right to access to the general curriculum. Within collaborative groups however, it may seems that individuals have their own ideations. A skill I possess in special education as shown by this artifact, is in providing guidance and delivery of special education services to others. In this paper, you will read about a frame of reference. As educational professionals move into the more advanced parts of their career, their frames of reference get wider and they are able to understand more and work with a better knowledge of how to deal with people, issues and situations.
I find that understanding issues within collaboration work in your favor when dealing with difficult staff or parent issues. Also being aware of others frame of reference may give you as an educator the ability to “fill in the missing pieces” when trying to articulate your ideas and hopes for a student. Finally I believe that an open line of communication and appreciating everyone’s job in supporting a student with a disability can help avoid many issues within collaboration and consultation.
